FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a short haul move?
This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.

What is a local move?
This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.

What is an intrastate move?
This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.

How can I ensure I will be finished packing by my moving day?
Many people tend to underestimate the amount of items to pack and the time required to do so. They may also expect more people to help on the actual moving day, even though some people may not be available. Avoid this by following an organized packing plan and allot more time than you believe you will require for packing.

What should I do if I haven’t finished packing by my moving day?
If you realized you won’t be finished packing by your move date, make sure to inform your moving company as soon as possible. You may be able to hire professional packers to help you finish the job or move on a different date. Your movers may be able to pack up a small amount of items, but you will end up paying more for the move.

What is full-value coverage?
If you purchase this type of coverage, your moving company will either replace a damaged or lost item with an article of similar kind and value, pay you for the replacement cost, repair the item or pay you the cost of any necessary repairs.

What is freight service?
Freight service is cheaper than a full-service move because movers transport your items to your destination and leave them at the doorstep of your new home. All your items must be boxed in advance, and movers won’t wrap individual pieces of furniture.

What should I do if one of my items is damaged during the move?
Professional movers and packers do their best to ensure all your belongings arrive safely to your destination. However, damage sometimes occurs. In this case, please email or call your moving company as soon as possible with the details.

How can I ensure that special items will treated with extra-special care?
You can move some of the items that have high sentimental or monetary value yourself. If you prefer to let your movers complete this task, make sure you clearly indicate which items you would like them to take special care with during the move.

How long do I have to inspect my belongings for lost or damaged items after the move?
You generally have 60 days to perform this inspection and notify your moving company of any problems.

?What is a transportation surcharge?
This is an extra fee charged when the pickup or destination locations are very remote which results in less return weight for the moving company.

Will my moving company have extra packing materials?
Most moving companies will provide you with extra materials during the day of the move for an additional cost.

Should I disassemble my furniture before the move?
You can do this if you have time, but it’s not required. If your movers need to dismantle any furniture, they will reassemble it in your new home.
